TPACK Quest

Throughout the course of EDBE 8Y08, we have had the opportunity to complete tasks and be awarded with badges in the TPACK Teacher Quest. Here is a representation of the badges I have learned and what each entailed. I really enjoyed this style of learning as it was different, and rewarding on many levels! I definitely gained more insight to many resources that I will implement within my future classes!

The Cup of Wisdom!

First, the Cup of Wisdom badge was rewarded for completing all of the 6 required badges as well as the optional badge which I completed the Mobile Learning. Within this section of the course, we completed different activities and used a variety of resources that are exceptionally valuable to be successful in teaching our digital learners.

During the Gamification badge, we learned about this buzz word that allows students to learn with game-play in mind and of course through reward just like the badges we have received in this activity. I really enjoyed learning about this because I think it is important to have game-play integrated like tasks, badges, rewards, and leaderboards. It allows for student engagement and increases motivation!

For the Digital Identity badge, it discussed the digital footprint that is created when using social media, and other online resources. In it I created an Avatar using Pick a Face. I found this fun and would implement it in my classrooms if students created profiles on their school accounts. It was valuable to know how to professionally create a digital footprint.

Throughout the Cup of Wisdom I completed other badges where I expanded on problem based learning (PBL). In this task I learned about an application I will definitely be using in my classroom for group collaboration called Popplet. It is a fantastic and extremely positive resource! Other great tools we were able to explore were Infographics and Webquest Exploration for examples. PJBL Badge was similar where we were able to use resources such as blogs, multimedia presentations, social networking sites, and form various word puzzles.

During the Digital Teacher badge, I explored blended, online, and flipped learning environments. This was valuable in understanding the positive benefits having different styles of learning can have in the classroom. I really enjoyed using the Newspaper Clipping Generator as it adds creativity. It would add a nice touch to various assignments.

Professional Order of the TPACK Teacher:

I really liked this component of the assignment and I think this would be great motivation within the classroom. The Collaborator Badge emphasis on participation in collaborative learning activities. While the Dependability Badge looks at the completion punctuality- attending class and furthermore arriving on time. The Professionalism Badge was earned based off of participating in evaluating other colleagues work. I would really like to add this to future classrooms. I think it adds encouragement through reward for students to have a more positive, professional attitude in the classroom. It would be used especially with Intermediate grades.

Genius Hour!

Perhaps the most reward badge was receiving the Genius Hour Badge! So much hard work went into getting this, and the reward is a great feeling. This project can be viewed throughout the entire blog- the PowToon Introduction, Google Slides Proposal Pitch, Blabberize Learning Object,  iMovie Movie Trailer, and the iMovie Ted Talk. Although these required a lot of time, work, energy and especially patience, I feel I took so much positive information away from this task! I would love to use Genius Hour in a future classroom, and see how creative my students get! I also enjoyed learning how to use these various resources. It's sad to admit I've had iMovie on my Mac for years, and was always intimidated by the program. Now, it will be a regular in my professional life and documenting my personal adventures.
